about

Hot off the heels of "THE SWAMP SESSIONS", an album that many critics have already touted as the album of the year, The Blues Brothters are already back with the most pure distillation of their ethos we have encountered thus far. Some might say the decision to self-title their thirteenth album is an odd one, but to the Broththers, this was the only way forward. The logical next step. It is clear from the get go that this is their bluesiest release yet, with warm piano tones and soulful grooves radiating throughout the whole record. This is the sound of celebration.

The Brothters are always weighing in on the cultural chaos that plagues our planet, however with nothing at all happening in politics right now, we get a rare glimpse of a music that is untainted by any kind of power struggle between despicable, insidious forces. Instead we are teleported back to the earlier days of the group, when the sonic landscape was all that mattered.

To get in the correct mindset for this album, the Brothters went on a 30 day retreat in the Dandenong Ranges, with nothing but an old MP3 player for entertainment. On this device was just three albums: “House Of Blues” (2016), “The Blues Brothers Presents "Rock Aruond The Clock With The Blues Brotheres""(2016) and “ReTurn To The house Of Blues” (2016). These were the three early Blues Brothers releases that best captured the authentic carefree spirit of the group, a feeling that had sadly grown absent during the Brothters’ subsequent string of experimental and conceptual projects such as “aANIMAL'PLANET” (2017) and “ELVIS IN SPACE” (2019). The Brothters realised that the only way to reawaken the primordial spectre of ‘The Blues Brothters’ mission was with a process of total immersion. And the results speak for themselves...

After leaving the Dandenong Ranges, the Brothters headed straight to Sing Song Studios, to the very room where they recorded their debut album "House Of Blues". With the fundamental essence of the Blues Brothters coursing through their veins, they created a new album in record time, with melodies and arrangements spilling out of the Brothters fingers and mouths like an overflowing sink. After no more than 24 hours of frenzied recording and mixing, their self-titled album was in the can. Finally, they had recorded the TRUE follow-up to "ReTurn To The house Of Blues". As the lyrics ask on track 3, "Return Of The Blues Brothters Pt. II"... Will you listen to the album?
